‘Prospects for WC grain producers looking up’

CAPE TOWN - Agri Western Cape says prospects for grain producers in the province are looking up after winter grain regions received some welcome rain over the weekend.
In the Cape Metropole, wheat producers experienced an average rainfall of three millimetres over the weekend.
Farmers are now holding thumbs for cooler weather conditions to persist until harvesting starts in early October.
A substantial amount of rainfall has been forecast every day for the rest of this week.
Agri Western Cape's Carl Opperman said, "The producers at the moment are very thankful for the rain we've had but follow up rain is very critical. The season started off very dry and a follow up rains remain critical for our wheat crops."
