‘Pravin Gordhan must present himself to Hawks’

Malema says while he believes the charges against Gordhan are bogus, he must respect the Hawks.

JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is setting a bad precedent by not cooperating with the Hawks.

Malema and other party leaders held a central command team meeting in Bramfontein at the weekend.

The EFF has commended the African National Congress (ANC) members who took part in the occupy Luthuli House protest, calling them courageous.

But Malema says their efforts are futile, and claims the governing party is on a downward spiral from which it cannot be saved.

He says while he believes the charges against Pravin Gordhan are bogus, the finance minister should nevertheless present himself to the Hawks when asked to.

"Pravin must subject himself to the Hawks. It doesn't matter how many drunkards are leading the Hawks today - respect the institution called the Hawks."

Malema says no one is above the law, even if they may not agree with the decisions being taken by the investigative unit.
