JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers are urging motorists to avoid Randfontein Road near Tshepisong where a protest is disrupting traffic.

It's understood the demonstration was sparked by an invasion of nearby land this morning.

Protesters have reportedly blocked a section of the road with burning tyres, and pelted passing vehicles with stones.

No injuries or arrests have been reported.

The JMPD's Edna Mamonyane says officers are keeping a close eye on the situation.

"We had land invasion in Randfontein and Impala [roads], and the people that were invading started protesting. South African Police Service and JMPD offers are on the scene to try and stabilise the situation."
