CAPE TOWN - SANParks says it will continue monitoring an area in Plettenberg Bay where a fire was raging over the past few days.

Rainy weather conditions have largely extinguished the blaze at the Middle Keurbooms Private Conservancy which grew out of control last weekend.

The fire had started as a control burn on a private farm. Nine people had to be evacuated from their homes as the fire threatened to damage their property.

SANParks' Nandi Mgwadlamba says the fire has been contained with only a few hotspot areas being monitored.

"They're monitoring the area very closely and they'll also be sending out the mopping team to mop up and there will an urgent meeting I think that's been planned by all the partners next week to assess just how much damage was caused to property and livestock, if any."
