JOHANNESBURG - Twenty-one drunken drivers have been arrested on Western Cape roads since the start of the weekend.

Nearly 2,000 vehicles were stopped and screened during the provincial traffic department's weekend road safety campaign.

Traffic officials urge motorists to use roads safely and always obey road traffic rules.

Western Cape traffic's Jacques Mostert says, "The highest alcohol reading was recorded at Swellendam, 1.10mg per 1,000ml - which was four times the legal limit. Nine thousand seven hundred vehicles were screened for speeding, of which 609 speeding offenses were recorded."
