CAPE TOWN - Delft residents have demanded a sustainable solution from law enforcement authorities to rid the area of gangsterism.

The Delft Community Policing Forum says there were more than 30 murders in the area last month, many of them gang-related.

Last night, Community Safety MEC Dan Plato reassured concerned residents that crime fighting operations will be intensified.

Delft residents outlined the debilitating effect gang violence has on their lives, saying they are living in fear.

"I am terrified for myself and my children," a resident said.

Plato says fighting crime should be the objective of all in the community. "We urge the neighbourhood watch, CPF and others to continue working closely with the police."

South African Police Service representatives have also encouraged residents to report police officials who neglect their duties.
