Minimal water restrictions implemented in Nelson Mandela Bay
The municipality says residents will have to cut their water consumption by 15 percent.
CAPE TOWN - Minimal water restrictions have been put in place in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The decision was taken during a council meeting yesterday.
The municipality's Annette Lovemore claims no steps were taken when the problem was flagged by the Department of Water and Sanitation earlier this year.
She warns fines may be implemented, if residents don't cut consumption.
"Hoses can't be used to hose down paving, wash cars or water gardens. Every resident must cut their water consumption by 15 percent in the next three months. We are currently using 16 million litres more than we should every day."
