CAPE TOWN - Nine people have been evacuated from their homes near Plettenberg Bay due to a raging fire.

Firefighters from South African National Parks (SANParks), Working on Fire, the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association and the Eden District Municipality have been battling the blaze at the Middle Keurbooms Private Conservancy since the weekend.

It started as a control burn on a private farm, but has since become out of control and yesterday it jumped into a Pine Plantation over the Eastern Cape border.

Garden Route National Park planning manager Len du Plessis says, "Some people had to be evacuated. We haven't confirmed yet but there might be some loss of property, houses that burned down."

Du Plessis says the blaze has been manageable so far.

"It's covered a huge area so there are different flames. The fight is not won yet, we must receive a lot of rain before we can call it safe."
