EC officer appears in court on corruption charges

CAPE TOWN - An Eastern Cape police officer has appeared in the Lady Grey Magistrates Court on charges of corruption.
The warrant officer, who works at the Lady Grey Police Station, was apprehended by the Hawks earlier this week.
The 48-year-old is accused of fraudulently submitting a monetary claim worth an undisclosed amount on behalf of an informer.
The Hawks' Anelisa Feni says, "It is alleged that the officer claimed that the informer supplied him with information that led to the arrest of the suspect."
