About 700 people homeless after Denver fire
It’s understood a mattress caught fire, spreading to hundreds of shacks.
JOHANNESBURG - The Social Development Department says about 700 people are homeless after a fire at an informal settlement in Denver, Johannesburg.
The department says a mattress appears to have caught fire, before spreading to hundreds of shacks.
While the department has provided food and temporary shelter, this resident says it will be a long time until they can rebuild their homes.
"We have to protect ourselves, especially here in the squatter camps, we have to take care of ourselves; there are children (sic)."
