JOHANNESBURG - South African contemporary artist Esther Mahlangu has partnered with luxury vodka brand Belvedere and US musician John Legend in a campaign that will see profits go to a program in the fight against HIV/Aids in Africa.

Mahlangu has designed the limited edition bottle for the #MakeaDifference campaign with her own colourful spin on the design using Ndebele patterns.

The premium vodka company revealed the new limited edition bottle at an event in New York this week, with 50 percent of profits going to the Global Fund.

Legend is the campaign ambassador.

His signature is featured on the front of the bottle.

This is not the first time Mahlangu's artwork has been used in collaboration with an international brand.

Earlier this year, a young Swedish trainer company Etys hired the 81-year-old from Middleburg in Mpumalanga to customise its sneakers.

She has also been invited to exhibit her artwork in galleries with pieces dating back as far as 1989, and has collaborated with the likes of BMW and British Airways in the past.

The bottle will be made available in South Africa on 1 September.
