Man arrested, officer injured after shootout in Soweto

One officer was shot in the leg and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

JOHANNESBURG - One suspect has been arrested after a shootout with police in Kilptown, Soweto.



The police were following up on a tip-off that a man was dealing in illegal firearms.

When they arrived at his home, the man opened fire.

One officer was shot in the leg and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The police's Mavela Masondo says, "We arrested a 35-year-old suspect after we cornered him. The suspect will be appearing in court to face charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm."
