Elda Jafta murder: Neighbour's concern led to discovery of body

A Bredasdorp resident told a court she alerted authorities after she became worried about Jafta.

JOHANNESBURG - A Bredasdorp resident has told the Western Cape High Court that she alerted authorities after she became worried about a teenager, who was living with her much older boyfriend.

Twenty-nine-year-old Gift Sabondo is on trial for rape and murder.

He's accused of killing 15-year-old Elda Jafta.

The teenager's body was found under a bed in Sabondo's home in May last year.

Constance Muchenyuru lived next door to murder accused Sabondo.

Muchenyuru testified she last saw Jafta when the accused carried the teenager inside his dwelling.

Residents did not see the 15-year-old again.

Muchenyuru told the court she became concerned after the accused continued to make excuses when asked about his very young girlfriend's whereabouts.

Sabondo eventually admitted the victim was at his home.

His neighbour then alerted the police who found the teenager's body inside the tiny room.
