CAPE TOWN - The bail hearing of the man accused of killing a Northern Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor will resume in September.

Zonisele Magawu appeared in the Postmasburg Magistrates Court yesterday.

He is charged with the murders of Hannes Baatjies and his business associate, Jeffrey Nouse, earlier this month.

Hannes Baatjies was shot and killed outside Postmasburg, just hours before he was due to be sworn in as DA councillor.

His partner, Jeffrey Nousem, was wounded. He died in hospital six days later.

The Hawks' Robert Netshiunda says the accused will remain in custody.

"The matter concerning the murder of the DA councillor has been postponed to the 22 September 2016 for bail application."

Magawu is reportedly also facing charges of housebreaking and robbery, alongside two others.
