Gift Sabondo pleads not guilty in Bredasdorp murder trial

CAPE TOWN - A Bredasdorp man has pleaded not guilty to murdering his 15-year-old girlfriend last year.

Gift Sabondo is currently on trial in the Western Cape High Court.

The 29-yaer-old is accused of killing Elna Japtha.

The teenager's body was found underneath a bed, in Sabondo's home, in May 2015.

Court documents detail how the accused allegedly kidnapped and raped Japhta on numerous occasions between 2013 and 2015.

The victim is also believed to have lived with the accused between January and May last year.

Sabondo's neighbour, Constance Muchenyuru, today testified that the accused admitted to beating up his girlfriend two days before her body was found.

Another witness, Kenneth Linde, told the court he had seen the accused carry the topless teenager into his house.

Linde also told the court he confronted the accused after noticing bruises on the victim's back.
