Neighbour reveals gruesome details in Bredasdorp teen murder case

CAPE TOWN - A Bredasdorp resident has testified her neighbour admitted to beating up his teenage girlfriend during the same weekend her body was found in his home.

Gift Sabondo, aged 29, is currently on trial in the Western Cape High Court in connection with the murder of Elna Japhta in May last year.

The body of the 15-year-old was found underneath his bed.

Constance Muchenyuru lived next door to the murder accused, Sabondo.

The elderly woman testified seeing the accused carrying Japhta over his shoulder and into his shack two days before the victim's body was found.

Muchenyuru says Sabondo told her he had beaten his girlfriend because she had not slept at the dwelling for a few days.

The witness has also described seeing blood on his jacket when he carried the teenager into his home.

Muchenyuru says she alerted the authorities when she had not seen the victim for a few days.
