ANC member in court in connection with DA councillor's murder
Zonisele Magawu was apprehended less than 24 hours after the councillor's murder.
CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) councillor candidate accused of murdering a Northern Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor is expected back in court today.
Hannes Baaitjies was found dead near his car in Groenwater, just outside Postmasburg nearly two weeks ago.
Zonisele Magawu was apprehended less than 24 hours after the murder.
Reports by the Sunday Independent claim Magawu is also facing charges of housebreaking and robbery involving six firearms, alongside two others.
It remains unclear whether his co-accused were also involved in the murder of Baatjies.
The DA councillor and his business partner was lured to a bogus business meeting the night Baatjies was killed.
His associate, who was wounded in the incident, died six days later in hospital.
Magawu will now face two murder charges when applying for bail in the Postmasburg Magistrates Court later today.
