Traffic officials screened at least 1,829 motorists on suspension of drunk driving.
CAPE TOWN - Five people have died and 27 motorists have been arrested on the Western Cape's roads this past weekend.
Almost 3,000 vehicles were stopped and checked at roadblocks.
Provincial traffic's Jacques Mostert says: "At least 1,829 drivers were screened, suspected for being under the influence of alcohol. This resulted in 27 arrests. The highest alcohol reading was recorded in Swellendam, with 1,13 milligrammes per 1,000 litres, which is four times the legal limit."
