JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says the new mayoral committee comprises of a diverse team of councillors in both race and gender.

He says two of the 10 Mayco members are from the Inkatha Freedom Party and political parties need to put their differences aside.

The mayor says the team comprises of doctors, lawyers and social development activists, who are all academically qualified.
Mashaba believes this will improve the running of the metro.
On Friday, he said those who were appointed irregularly could lose their jobs.
CALL FOR PATIENCE
He says creating jobs is at the top of his agenda, but he's warned residents to be patient, as he and his team assess what needs to be done.
He says the new team needs to start from scratch, while focusing on the poor.
"I need to ask the people of Johannesburg to be patient with us. The truth is that there are no shortcuts. It is going to take time to correct years of mismanagement. We need to start from scratch and rebuild the city step by step."
