CAPE TOWN - Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of murder after the discovery of a child's mutilated body.

The three-year-old's remains were found with limbs missing at a village outside Willowvale on Thursday.

Community members who were walking past an open field made the gruesome discovery.

The police's Jackson Manatha says the child's identity still remains a mystery.

"We can't confirm whether the child is a boy or girl because the lower body is gone and we have opened a case of murder. We appeal to anyone who can assist to please report to the police."
