[LISTEN] WC plans to bring back 'school inspectors'

One of the proposed changes is inspectors who will conduct classroom inspections, and intervention facilities for pupils who have been found guilty of serious misconduct.

JOHANNESBURG - There are a number of changes being proposed for the Western Cape Provincial Education Act, which will be published today in the Provincial Gazette and will be open for comment for one month.

Debbie Schäfer, Western Cape MEC for Education, says one of the changes will be the establishment of the Western Cape Schools Evaluation Authority which is said to be the return of "school inspectors".

The inspectors will conduct classroom inspections, and intervention facilities for pupils who have been found guilty of serious misconduct.

Schäfer says the assessments of schools will allow parents and the rest of the public to compare performances of different schools with the intention that it will drive improvement.

In the SoundCloud above, CapeTalk's John Maytham and discuss the proposed changed in detail.
