JOHANNESBURG - Sasol has confirmed a garage employee who caused an accident in Pretoria, in which a pregnant woman was killed, has now been fired following a disciplinary hearing.

Belinda Louw was waiting for her car to be washed at the garage in Gezina earlier this month, when the employee lost control of one of the vehicles he was attending to, and ploughed into the heavily pregnant woman.

Her unborn son died almost instantly, while the mother died shortly after in hospital.

She was due to deliver the infant on Friday last week.

Garage manager Eduan van As says, "I would like to confirm that the car wash employee that was involved in the accident two weeks ago has been dismissed with immediate effect."

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
