JOHANNESBURG - Several people have been injured after a multi vehicle accident on the N1 south at the Beyers Naude off ramp, after a minibus taxi and a bakkie collided this afternoon.

Traffic is backed up, with the accident affecting three lanes on a stretch of the highway.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department Edna Mamonyane says motorists must use alternative routes.

"The traffic is moving very slowly, because three lanes have been affected; they are not closed, but they are affected."

Mamonyane says motorists must prepare to spend more time on the road.

"It's peak hour, so we are going to see very slow traffic in that area. People, if they normally take an hour [to reach their destination], they might take up to two."
