JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says she has no interest in pursuing a career in politics and would not take up an offer to stand for president.

Madonsela says although she believes the country is ready for a female president, she has neither the skill nor the desire for the office.

She says a person's qualities should determine whether they're presidential material.

"Let's not obsess with a woman president; lets decide what kind of president we want and if that person happens to be a woman, that would be great. Don't vote for a woman just because she is a woman."

Madonsela is preparing to leave office in October after her seven-year term.
