JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA's) Marlien Van Staden has been voted as the Mayor of the amalgamated Limpopo 368 Municipality, which is a combination of Mookgophong and Modimolle.

The DA obtained 17 of the 28 votes, with two of the African National Congress's 13 councillors seemingly voting for the opposition.

Van Staden says the DA administration will provide basic services.

"My plans are to look at what previously happened in the municipality, to make a priority list, to make sure that we know exactly what we want to do, and then start with the top one first - making sure that we tackle firstly water, electricity, all the basic services and roads that need attention."

Economic Freedom Fighters provincial secretary Jose Buthane says, "They are tired of empty promises, arrogance, unemployment, poor service delivery and corruption. We hope that the DA will give our people better services."
