Officer wounded, 3 arrested in WC robbery

Police followed and searched a vehicle, after receiving tip off, which resulted in a shootout earlier today.

CAPE TOWN - A police officer has been shot and wounded in pursuit of three suspects involved in a robbery at a Spur restaurant in Durbanville.

Following a tip-off from the public, police followed and searched a vehicle which resulted in the shootout.

The police's Noloyiso Rexwana says, "Cases of business robbery are under investigation. Two suspects, in their thirties, were arrested and firearms were confiscated. The suspects will appear in court once charged."

At the same time, a restaurant manager attacked during the robbery will be sent for psychological counselling.

The woman opened the back entrance of the restaurant for a delivery, when three suspects forced their way in and robbed her.

Franchise manager John Peace says the incident did not affect operations.

"Two people with guns came in and accosted her, took her into the office and threatened her with their firearms. They took her all her personal possessions, her jewellery, handbag, cellphone and car keys."
