More arrests imminent in connection with DA councillor's murder
A suspect was arrested on Friday and is expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court today.
CAPE TOWN - The Hawks say more arrests are imminent in connection with the murder of Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Hannes Baatjies.
A suspect was arrested on Friday and is expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate's Court today.
Baatjies was reportedly lured to what he believed was a business meeting last week, where he was then shot and killed.
Baatjies, 49, was found dead near his car in Groenwater in the Northern Cape, just hours before he was due to be sworn in as a DA councillor.
A 29-year-old suspect who was arrested on Friday, is facing murder and attempted murder charges.
Baatjies' business partner, who accompanied him to the meeting was also shot. He remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The Hawks' Hangwani Mulaudzi said officials are working around the clock to ensure all the perpetrators are caught.
"There are other people that we might be looking at but for now we're happy with this one arrest."
