JOHANNESBURG - The defamation case of former intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils against the head of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans' Association, Kebby Maphatsoe, is expected to begin in the North Gauteng High Court today.

Kasrils is suing Maphatsoe for R1 million for allegations he made in 2014 during a press conference.

He apparently accused Kasrils of giving legal advice to Khwezi, the young woman who accused President Jacob Zuma of rape.

Kasrils says the allegations are not only untrue but also malicious.

"It's defamatory, totally, it's my claim that to quote: 'When Kasrils was the minister of intelligence, he dismissed most of the cadres of the Umkhonto weSizwe because he wanted to sell out our intelligence to the imperialists during our reconstruction.'"
