JOHANNESBURG - The National Energy Regulator South Africa (Nersa) says it will decide on a way forward with regards to Eskom's tariff increase during a committee meeting next week.

The North Gauteng High Court has found that Nersa's decision to approve the application for a 9.4% tariff hike was unlawful and the correct procedures weren't followed.

The tariff increase came into effect in April for Eskom's direct customers while the increase for municipal customers began last month.

The court ruled that energy regulator must review its decision.

Nersa's Thembani Bukula says, "When we received the ruling, we analysed it and looked at all of the elements of it that we can implement and those that we can't. We have set a meeting for 25 August where we'll make a final decision."
