MEC concerned after mom allegedly kills son
The woman allegedly stabbed her 29-year-old son after he apparently tried to steal items from her home.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz has expressed his concern following the murder of a man allegedly at the hands of his mother in George.
The woman allegedly stabbed her 29-year old son in Pacaltsdorp last weekend after he apparently tried to steal items from her home.
Police say the man, who's an alleged drug addict, died at the scene.
The mother was arrested soon after the incident and has since appeared in court.
Fritz says not much is known at this stage about the case.
"We don't know much about the case but a pure frustration of a mother who's just sick and tired because her son is a drug addict.
"We really want to urge people not to go that way because unfortunately that's going to land you into prison and you are really going to face the might of the law."
Fritz has urged the public to work with government and civil society groups in tackling the scourge of drug abuse in communities.
"We want to urge people to continue to work with the government, civil society and non-government organisations so we can get a solution to the problem of drug addiction in most of our communities."
