Four lanes on N1 in JHB closed off after shooting
Motorist have been urged to avoid the N1 north between Rivonia road and the Buccleuch interchange.
JOHANNESBURG - Four of five traffic lanes on the N1 north between Rivonia road and the Buccleuch interchange have been closed off after police and suspects exchanged gunfire a short while ago.
The details remain sketchy at this change, but motorists have been urged to find alternative routes as the area is now a crime scene.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department's Edna Mamonyane says, "The N1, northbound from Rivonia to Buccleuch, has been closed. All four lanes have been closed and only one lane is open after the shootout with the South African Police Service and suspects. Two suspects have been shot and the freeway has been closed. It's a crime scene now."

Four lanes will remain closed this afternoon and only one lane, on the N1 north near Sunninghill, will remain open as authorities comb the crime scene.
The police's Kay Makhubele says two unlicensed firearms have also been recovered.
"The police received a tip-off about a group of people who were about to commit a robbery. When they spotted the vehicle, the suspects realised that the police had noticed them and started shooting at the police. The police returned fire and two suspects were shot."
