Silent protest at Wits to bring together rape survivors
Participants will march with tape over their mouths to symbolise those silenced by rape perpetrators.
JOHANNESBURG - Students who are part of the "I Am One in Three" movement will today be hosting a silent protest at Wits University, bringing together victims and survivors of rape.
Those gathered will march around the campus with tape over their mouths to symbolise those silenced by rape perpetrators.
The movement's Thenjiwe Nswane says they will march to show solidarity and will bring together women who have been sexually assaulted.
"It will provide a space for young women who have been raped. In many of these silent protests there's either a woman who says she's never been able to talk about this or another who thanks us for the protest."
