DA, ANC vote out Icosa in Kannaland municipality
With two seats each, the ANC and DA were able to boot out Icosa Mayor Jeffrey Donson.
CAPE TOWN - In a surprise move, the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) councillors have voted out the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (Icosa) in the Kannaland Municipality.
Outgoing Mayor Jeffrey Donson has confirmed a DA councillor has been appointed speaker while ANC candidate Magdaleen Barry has been voted in as mayor at a council meeting yesterday.
With two seats each, the ANC and DA were able to boot out Icosa mayor Jeffrey Donson.
But this does not mean there is a coalition between the two parties, according to the DA's Jaco Londt.
However, Donson believes otherwise, saying this proves the parties are willing to enter into a coalition despite publicly stating otherwise.
With Donson's party enjoying the most support with 48 percent, he says it is unclear how the community will react to the news.
