Troubled Oudtshoorn Municipality gets new mayor
The DA snatched the Karoo town from the ANC with a 55% majority during the local government elections.
CAPE TOWN - The Oudtshoorn Municipality officially has a new mayor.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) snatched the Karoo town from the African National Congress (ANC) with a 55 percent majority during the recent local government elections.
The troubled municipality was placed under administration by the Western Cape government last year after years of political dysfunction.
The DA's Jaco Londt says, "I'm excited with the situation in Oudtshoorn finally coming to an end. The DA obtained an outright majority and today we elected our mayoral candidate Colan Sylvester, who with the help of his committee and the community, will turn Oudtshoorn around."
