D-day for Zephany Nurse kidnapper
The State has called for the woman to be sentenced to at least 15 years behind bars.
CAPE TOWN - It's D-day for the woman who kidnapped Zephany Nurse. The 52-year-old will be sentenced in the Western Cape High Court today for snatching the infant from Groote Schuur Hospital in 1997.
Earlier this year Judge John Hlophe found the Lavender Hill resident guilty of kidnapping, fraud and contravening sections of the Children's Act.
Zephany Nurse's biological father, Morne Nurse, testified that the kidnapper never showed remorse or apologised for stealing his daughter.
Nurse and the State are calling for the woman to be sentenced to at least 15 years behind bars.
Judge Hlophe made it clear he did not believe any of her testimony and told her she lied throughout the trial.
Hlophe's sentencing decision will also consider the testimony of the girl known as Zephany Nurse, details of which may not be revealed as ordered by the court.
