RIO DE JANEIRO - South Africa has won another silver medal at the Olympic Games as Luvo Manyonga has fallen agonisingly short of gold in the long jump final.

He was beaten on the final jump by a dramatic leap by Jeff Henderson of the US who beat him by just one centimetre.

Manyonga has claimed yet another silver and in some style too emphatic at the Olympic stadium in Rio.

After an opening jump of 8.16 metres he then took the competition lead with a jump of 8.28 on his 4th and then extended that to 8.37m on his 5th.

But with gold in sight dramatically Henderson produces a winning leap of 8.38 to edge out Manyonga by just one centimetre.

Defending champion Greg Rutherford took bronze.

That's five silvers and a bronze for team South Africa now.

"I rose from my demons, they have been trying to pull me down but now I made it, I can't even describe it."

The athlete added that he's got plenty of people back in South Africa to tell his story.
