UPDATE: Two of six escaped awaiting trial prisoners recaptured

JOHANNESBURG - Six awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the Witpoort police cells earlier this morning, but police have since tweeted that two of the escapees were later rearrested in Boksburg.
The six awaiting trial prisoners were arrested for various crimes ranging from rape to armed robbery.
The circumstances around their escape this morning are being investigated and police are urging the public not to approach the group as they are considered armed and dangerous.
Spokesperson Ronel Otto says, "The suspects escaped from the police cells in the early hours of this morning. The full circumstances behind how and why they escaped are still being investigated. In the meantime we are asking for the assistance of the community to assist in tracing these suspects."
