Public Protector candidate offended by interview question
Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh says she was subjected to unfair questioning during her interview.
CAPE TOWN - The Executive Director of the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC), Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh says she was subjected to unfair questioning during her interview for the post of Public Protector.
She's among 14 candidates vying for the job. The candidates were interviewed during a marathon session which started yesterday morning.
The process concluded in the early hours of this morning.
Ramjathan-Keogh was unhappy with committee member Amos Masondo's questions about possible foreign influence on the SALC.
"I took great offense at this question, we're a non-governmental organisation. We're transparent about who funds us and about what they fund us for and for him to ask such a loaded question in this kind of interview was hugely unfair."
Ramjathan-Keogh says her organisation is politically neutral and aims to uphold the constitution and the rule of law.
She adds challenging the State to deliver on its mandate is also a key aim for the SALC.
