DA hoping to complete coalition deals in hung WC councils today

CAPE TOWN - Some of the Western Cape's hung councils could be resolved before the end of the day.

At least eight municipalities including Bitou, Beaufort West, Knysna and Kannaland have been left in limbo following the local government elections.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is today expected to announce coalition agreements for at least three municipalities in the Central Karoo.

The DA has been in discussion with the Karoo Community Initiative representing three parties in Prince Albert, Laingsburg and Beaufort West.

DA provincial spokesperson Anneke Scheepers says: "The details of the coalition agreements will be fleshed out by the leadership at the briefing."

The Active United Front has indicated it will form a coalition government with the ANC in the Bitou Municipality.

Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa the largest party in the Kannaland with three seats is still in talks with the DA and the ANC who have two seats each.
