DA launches complaint over Bitou Municipality results

The DA claims the tally didn't add up at one voting station in Plettenberg Bay.

CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has lodged a case with the Electoral Court to dispute election results in the Bitou Municipality.

The party had initially lodged an objection with the Independent Electoral Commission after its agents had raised concerns about the counting process, but the complaint was dismissed.

It claims at one voting station in Plettenberg Bay, the tally didn't add up and resulted in the DA falling short of a majority by 41 votes.

DA Southern Cape manager Jaco Londt says, "It's going to be an interesting test of our democracy to see whether the Electoral Court will hear our case and make sure that the votes cast in Bitou will be relooked at."

The Bitou council was decided today when the Active United Front formed a coalition government with the African National Congress.
