JOHANNESBURG - Police have confirmed that five cars have been set alight and several offices at a municipal building torched during a violent overnight protest in Cullinan, east of Pretoria.

It's understood residents were left angry after being evicted by the Red Ants from a land they were occupying illegally.

Three people have been arrested so far for public violence.

The police's Mavela Masondo said: "They resisted the eviction, so they went to a nearby township that's called Refilwe and that's where thy burned the municipal office. They burned five cars and damaged others that were in the premises."
