State calls for direct imprisonment for Zephany Nurse kidnapper
State prosecutor Evadne Kortje has called for a 15 year jail sentence, part of which will be suspended.
Closing arguments in the trial against the Lavender Hill woman concluded in the Western Cape high Court today.
The 52-year-old woman was found guilty of kidnapping, fraud and contravening sections of the Children's Act.
State prosecutor Evadne Kortje has called for a 15-year jail sentence, part of which will be suspended.
Kortje believes imprisonment is appropriate in this matter. The prosecution told the court the convicted kidnapper has shown no remorse.
But defence counsel Reaz Khan has asked the court to consider his client's personal circumstances.
Khan says while it's clear the public wants vengeance and the court shouldn't impose a sentence in the spirit of anger.
