CAPE TOWN - Deputy Public Protector Kevin Malunga has praised the process used to select a new head for the Chapter 9 institution.

Malunga will, along with 13 other candidates, be interviewed during the course of the day by a parliamentary committee for the position of public protector.

For some of the 14 candidates, today's interview process will be the most important and nerve-wracking of their careers.

In the running for the position of Public Protector is Thuli Madonsela's current deputy.

"I was slightly nervous in the months before but now that it's here, you've just got to do it and somebody's got to do it, hey."

He faces stiff competition from the likes of High Court judge Siraj Desai, as well as Willie Hofmeyer, the Deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions.

It's a long day ahead for all involved. The last interview is scheduled for 11pm tonight.
