CAPE TOWN - The Active United Front (AUF) says it plans to form a coalition with the African National Congress (ANC) in the Bitou Municipality.

The ANC may take control of the #BitouMunicipality after the Active United Front confirmed it has a mandate to form a coalition with the ANC

The AUF says it has conducted public meetings in all seven of the municipal wards over the past week in order to determine whether it should form a coalition with the ANC or the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The party says after being given a mandate by the majority of residents, they've decided to side with the ANC.

AUF's Peter Lobese, however, says at this point they don't have any signed agreement with the ANC.

"We listened to both the DA and ANC on what they'll bring on the table. They came up with good offers. At the end of the day we said the people will decide and we'll do what the people tell us to do, so that's how things are at the moment."

This means the DA will lose control of the Bitou Municipality, which is one of 27 hung councils across the country, if the AUF and ANC make it official.
