CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress in the Western Cape will this weekend be briefing the party's national leadership about its poor showing in the municipal elections and to plot the way forward.

The party lost to the Democratic Alliance yet again across much of the province and saw its support decline by more than seven percent.

It also lost four of the municipalities it governed.

The provincial executive committee met this week to analyse its performance and the results.

The ANC's Jabu Mfusi admits the organisation is reeling.

"This was a painful lesson but we have learnt as an organisation. Of course we congratulate our opponents, the Democratic Alliance for their landslide victory."
