ANC's losses an indication of a discerning electorate - analyst
The ANC will this week be scrutinising its crushing defeats in previously well-supported strongholds.
CAPE TOWN - A Stellenbosch University political science researcher says the African National Congress's losses at the polls are an indication of a discerning electorate that's watching the party's performance.
The ruling party will this week be scrutinising some crushing defeats in previously well-supported strongholds like Tshwane and Nelson Mandela Bay.
Maties researcher Dr Collette Scultz-Herzenberg says last week's local government polls may be a good indicator of what lies ahead for the 2019 national government elections.
"They will use the evaluation of government's performance as they get to 2019 when they make the decisions. Also we've now the development of opposition parties playing a much more fundamental role as incumbent parties and power."
