Officials say it's unclear what caused the fire and no one has been injured.
Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services' Liesl Moodie said, "Two carriages were burning at the time while waiting for the power to be isolated four trains were then burning. Firefighters are on scene and the cause of the fire is not yet known."
Meanwhile, Metrorail's Richard Walker says the incident is likely to result in several cancellations to the peak hour commute tomorrow.
"The technical team will look at if all or any of the carriages can be recovered. This is not good news for the commuters as it will impact them tomorrow."
To date six trains have been totalled in separate arson attacks since October last year.
The rail operator was last month forced to amend its timetable resulting in at least 30 trips being cancelled indefinitely.
