CAPE TOWN - An investigation into the shooting of a police officer in Athlone is still underway.

The South African Police Service (Saps) member was wounded outside a voting station in the area on Wednesday.

The Hawks say the police officer is in a stable condition.

The shooting, which happened outside a voting station in Lawrence Road, is not election related.

The policeman was attacked by four armed suspects who managed to flee with his service pistol.

In another incident in Durbanville last week, a police officer was shot and wounded while responding to a business robbery.

No arrests have been made in either of these cases.
