JOHANNESBURG - The battle for the big metros remains tight for the African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA).

Despite a second long night of counting by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), there's still no final result in Nelson Mandela Bay, while the ANC and the DA are neck-and-neck in Tshwane and Johannesburg this morning.

At 6am, at least 98% of the vote had been counted in Nelson Mandela Bay and the official opposition has 46.56% of the vote there while the ruling party has 40.99%.

The DA has already claimed to have a majority of votes in that metro.

It's neck-and-neck in Johannesburg; the DA is on 41.72%, the ANC has 41.84% and the Economic Freedom Fighters has 10.81%.

In Tshwane the DA is in the lead with 43.49%, the ruling party is on 41.91% and the red berets are on 10.57%.

Meanwhile, the ANC's Ekhuruleni results seem convincing, with the party getting 47.34%, DA on 36.12 and EFF on 11.1%.

In the Midvaal, 100% of the voting districts have been processed and the DA is the winner with 59.7%, ANC on 32.08% and EFF on 4.8%.

As of 7am, 91% of the voting districts were counted in the country.
