Zephany Nurse case: NPA wants direct prison sentence
The State and defence concluded sentencing proceedings, with closing arguments set to happen next Thursday.
The State and defence today concluded sentencing proceedings against the Lavender Hill resident in the Western Cape High Court.
She was found guilty of snatching the child from her sleeping mother's arms at Groote Schuur Hospital in the 1990s, and then raising Zephany as her own for nearly 18 years.
Closing arguments will be made next Thursday.
The NPA's Eric Ntabazalila says they are calling for a direct prison sentence.
"We are very satisfied with what we have presented, now we just need to argue.
"I have not spoken to the prosecutor in terms of what number of years we want, but we do want a direct sentence. We believe that a direct prison sentence would be a fair sentence result to what these families went through."
